🍏 tue, aug 13 / day 9 of my personal productivity challenge :) got my x-rays done, was nervous because it's a weird area to get a clear shot of on an x-ray table. also organized alot of my new work area and decorated for the rush of people coming in on thursday. 😵‍💫 tomorrow is a short day so i have time to prepare myself for the most people-ing i'll probably do all semester. i also checked Rate My Professor today. the professors i chose were all my only options, but i like to get a feel ahead of time... one of my professors doesn't wear shoes, and about half the reviews felt the need to mention it... he's rated very highly, though?

just finished re-reading little mushroom for the second time, and FINALLY after 3 reads i’m on tumblr looking for it

on a related note: seeing the array of new readers’ responses from “i’m finally going to read it! :D” “haha silly mushroom guy” to “what does it mean to be human.” “experienced the full spectrum of human emotion” is amazing and hilarious lmao! like yess the world building and cute little mushroom catches you, then BOOM. existentialism.

Some really fascinating data courtesy of the amazing @wyndlerunner who looked at the number of copies of the Murderbot Diaries series American libraries hold and the format they are in—so physical books, e-books or audio books.

This was inspired by the observation that their library had a LOT of audio copies of the books!

They got data from thirteen major libraries for the books All Systems Red, Artificial Condition, Rogue Protocol, Exit Strategy, Network Effect and Fugitive Telemetry; and partial data for System Collapse—total n=2407

I’ve thrown together some graphs—all errors are mine!

BUT I thought others might be interested—and yes! Audio is popular, especially in the partial data for System Collapse (70% of all copies are audio)

The traditional physical books are (and this graph doesn’t include SC data as I think it may balance out later) possibly surprisingly popular still, around 42% of all copies—except for All Systems Red! (also, as you can see from above, current incomplete data for System Collapse)

Saw online some people declaring that audiobooks count towards your overall reading goal and was like um yeah? why wouldn't they? Is anyone even saying they don't or is this just something people are making up to stir drama? But nope bc I just scrolled into some people actually arguing that you can only count audiobooks into a "book count" list (not a thing on any book app lol) and that counting it in your reading goal for the year is bad????

when you’re reading a book that’s already mostly bad less than halfway through so you go to check the reviews on storygraph and see lots of “the first half was better but the second half of the book was a letdown” “second half of the book brought down the rating on this one” “was so disappointed with the latter half of the book”

Tbh I can’t think of the last sci-fi thing I’ve even seen- my mom is a huge fan of the genre, she’s reading this thing posted to Royal Road (I think that’s what it’s called- it’s like fanfic.net but for original works) that’s suuuuuper long but she finds it hilarious

I really want to get around to reading Frankenstein but I’ve been ‘wanting to get around to reading Frankenstein’ for a while lol
